1 doctor for 1,000 people? WHO never said so

The World Health Organization (WHO) has clarified that it never recommended a doctor-to-population ratio of 1:1,000, warning that this widely cited figure should not be used as a national benchmark for health workforce planning. Dr. Giorgio Cometto, head of WHOs health workforce unit, said the ratio is a “factoid” often quoted without basis in WHO documents.
