Chainsaw-wielding man unleashes frenzied attack inside senior living facility

A shocked resident called 911 after spotting a man, wielding a chainsaw, entering River Glen of St. Charles, a senior living facility in Kane County Illinois. The terrifying ordeal, which occurred in December 2024, was caught on bodycam as cops tried to restrain suspect Daniel H. Escalera. The suspect, 41, was near multiple elderly residents in the cafeteria. The officer displayed his taser and gave multiple verbal commands for Escalera to drop the chainsaw - but he refused. Escalera was briefly knocked down before getting back up, grabbing the chainsaw, and then running toward the officer. Escalera then held the chainsaw over his head and charged toward the officer. The frenzied ordeal ended when Escalera was finally shot by the officers. He was transported to Delnor Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Based upon a review of the investigation, the deadly force was justified considering the situation.
