INS Udaygiri and Himgiri: Two ships, one big step for India’s maritime edge

The Indian Navy will commission two advanced stealth frigates, INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri, built under Project 17A. Constructed in Mumbai and Kolkata, they mark the first time two frontline combat ships will enter service together. With powerful weapons, advanced sensors, aviation capability and 75 per cent indigenous content, they will extend Indias reach across the Indian Ocean and signal growing self-reliance in defence manufacturing. Both ships revive proud naval names while delivering new levels of stealth, firepower and endurance.
