One of the big sticking points in the trade talks between India and the US is the dairy sector. The US wants access to the Indian dairy market. India, on its part, wants to protect small dairy farmers by keeping the import duties on dairy products at a certain level. So, why is the US so keen to access the Indian market? Perhaps because, apart from the fact that it is large, per capita consumption of branded milk products has reached an inflection point.
