'Life-threatening' bacteria found in invasive tick for first time in US. Know about human monocytic ehrlichiosis

Connecticut officials have confirmed the first US case of longhorned tick carrying Ehrlichia chaffeensis, known as the human monocytic ehrlichiosis. This bacterium causes a potentially fatal illness and its symptoms include fever, chills, and fatigue. Ehrlichia chaffeensis is a tick-transmitted rickettsial pathogen responsible for causing human monocytic ehrlichiosis (HME). The pathogen is mostly spread by the lone star tick and causes flu-like symptoms.
