Matching gene expression to metabolite production in single plant cells

A research team at the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology has successfully combined single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and single-cell mass spectrometry (scMS) analysis on the same plant cell. This new approach allows researchers to directly correlate, at the cellular level, the expression of genes involved in producing natural products of interest with their occurrence and abundance.
