The traffic on Mumbai-Pune Expressway took a major hit on Tuesday evening after a tanker carrying highly flammable and heavy propylene gas overturned near the Adoshi tunnel. The jam continued for more than 12 hours and thousands of commuters were stranded deprived of food, water and toilet facilities. The accident occurred around 5 pm, following which traffic from Pune towards Mumbai was immediately stopped as a precautionary measure due to the hazardous nature of the gas.
