Study estimates at least 35,000 lives in India lost to extreme temperatures during 2001-2019

A new study reveals a concerning trend in India. Extreme temperatures led to significant loss of life. Thirty-five thousand deaths occurred between 2001 and 2019. Heatstroke and cold exposure were major factors. Men of working age were disproportionately affected. Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab reported high heatstroke deaths. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar saw many cold exposure deaths.
