‘Titanic’ Trump-Epstein Statue Appears On National Mall In DC

A satirical statue featuring likenesses of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein recreating a scene from the movie “Titanic” appeared on the National Mall in Washington, DC, on Tuesday, March 10. The statue was erected between two flags bearing the words “Make America Safe Again,” from the “Department of [Redacted].” An affixed plaque titled “The King of the World” included the text, “The tragic love story between Jack and Rose was built on luxurious travel, raucous parties and secret nude sketches. “This monument honors the bond between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, a friendship seemingly built on luxurious travel, raucous parties, and secret nude sketches.” Trump and Epstein were friends for years until, Trump claims, the early 2000s. Financier Epstein was arrested on charges of the sex trafficking of minors in July 2019 but died in his jail cell in New York the following month. The Secret Handshake group claimed responsibility for erecting the statue on the National Mall, as it has done for other statues featuring Trump and Epstein in the past year. In an email to WIRED the group said it has permits for the statue and expected it to remain in place for several days. The intention of the statue is open to interpretation, but for [us] it's to spark a little bit of joy or humor or reflection in a very dark time,” the email said. “Washington DC is surrounded by all these pillars of history (and actual pillars); we wanted to create something that feels appropriate to our current moment in American history.”
